Roundstone is a picturesque fishing village on the Atlantic coast of Connemara, County Galway, surrounded by spectacular coastal scenery, beaches and mountain landscapes. The village sits on Roundstone Bay, with the Twelve Bens and Errisbeg Mountain providing a dramatic backdrop.

The area is particularly famous for Dog’s Bay and Gurteen Bay, two beautiful beaches located approximately 3km from Roundstone. The beaches lie back-to-back, separated by a narrow sand tombolo, and are known for their distinctive white shell sand and rare machair habitat.

Roundstone is also situated on the Wild Atlantic Way, making it an attractive destination for visitors combining an orienteering event with walking, cycling, swimming and exploring the Connemara coastline.

The nearest large town is Clifden, approximately 20km from Roundstone, while Galway City is approximately 77- 80km away.

From Galway, take the N59 towards Clifden, then the R341 towards Roundstone.

Public transport:
Bus Éireann Route 421 provides a coastal service from Galway towards the Connemara area, with services passing through Roundstone.

TFI Local Link Galway Route 432 also serves Roundstone, connecting Carraroe, Carna, Roundstone and Clifden. The current timetable shows regular services through Roundstone, making it possible to reach the village without a car.

Nearest airport:
Ireland West Airport Knock is the closest major airport geographically, while Shannon Airport and Dublin Airport provide additional options for international visitors. For most visitors travelling from within Ireland, Galway is the main transport hub for reaching Roundstone.
